WATCH: Huge Black Bear steals man’s golf clubs from his cart – Golf365

Must read

It’s a well-known fact that a man will let few things get in the way of himself and his golf clubs.

The item is a treasured, perfectly manicured and essential tool for enjoying one of life’s great luxuries: golf.

It’s unlikely anyone would have their bag stolen without putting up a fight, but for one Canadian man his decision to stand back and watch his prize possession snatched from him was probably a wise one.

With his golf buggy left stationary on the fairway, a colossal, native black bear approached the cart and ripped his golf bag away before taking it back into the woods.

The unfortunate golfer was playing 18 holes at Westwood Plateau, a popular golf club in British Columbia, Canada and likely didn’t envisage losing his golf bag and clubs in such an unfortunate fashion.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing, and while the golfer will rue his lost bag and clubs, he will be thankful that he didn’t wrestle them back from the likely hungry carnivore.

In North American golf courses, the sightings and regularity of grizzly and black bear interaction is more common, with the mammals realising the opportunity for food at lower levels, especially during summer months.

While this golfer’s group saw the funny side of the encounter, it could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

Golfers and residents alike in areas with bear populations are being reminded and urged to exercise caution, not display food and discard edibles and rubbish properly to keep local human and bear communities safe.

The 6,770-yard par 72 golf course is situated on the idyllic Eagle Mountain, offering stunning views, and is quintessentially Canadian in its appearance and course design.

British Columbia is home to some of the most scenic golf courses that Canada has to offer.

While he may have lost his bag and clubs, the are few better excuses to treat yourself to a new set.
