Cliftonville midfielder Louise McDaniel said that her side are “over the moon” after completing a domestic treble.
McDaniel struck the opening goal in the Women’s Challenge Cup final as the Reds won 5-0 in the Windsor Park showpiece.
The Reds also picked up the League Cup this season and won the Women’s Premiership with 16 victories from 16 games.
“We’re absolutely delighted, we came off the back of winning the league and the league cup and we just wanted to add to the collection so we’re over the moon,” she told BBC Sport NI.
‘Windsor is my favourite place to play’
The Northern Ireland international opened the scoring on six minutes, with a sweetly-struck effort with the outside of her boot.
Caitlin McGuinness then added a hat-trick with substitute Vicky Carleton also getting on the score sheet as the Reds won the Irish Cup for the first time since 2015.
And McDaniel believes it was the just rewards after the hard work put in from the squad throughout the season.
“In pre-season we really worked hard, we train three to four times a week in the gym outside of football too, so we got out of it what we put in.
“We really wanted to win this year and thankfully we’ve come out of it with a treble.”
The 24-year-old also expressed her delight that she was able to contribute to the victory by scoring in a venue she has a knack of popping up with important goals.
She became the first woman to score at the redeveloped Windsor Park for Northern Ireland when she netted in a 4-0 win over Latvia in 2021.
“My first touch set me up nicely and I thought it would hit the back of the net when I struck it and thankfully it did, so I was delighted,” added McDaniel..
“Playing at Windsor, I said to the girls it’s my favourite place to play so it was amazing to get the goal.”
‘She steps up in the big ocasions’
McDaniel also reserved special praise for teammate McGuinness, who showed great composure in all three of her goals to help the Reds on their way to victory.
“She was outstanding, she steps up in the big occasions and I thought she was going to shout at me if I didn’t slip that last one through to her at the end!” joked McDaniel.
“Thankfully it went through, and she got on the end of and got her hat-trick.
“Lisburn Rangers are a good side and exciting so we had to stick to what we know and be clinical.”
McDaniel did however believe that it was a whole squad effort that got her side over the line in this competition for only the second time in their history.
“Our team is full of amazing players and we gel really well we all want each other to do well and that helped us get the win you could see that out there.”
