West Ham eye Michael Carrick to replace Lopetegui – report

Julen Lopetegui looks to be on the brink of being sacked as West Ham United manager.

The Hammers have decided to keep him in place for Monday’s crunch clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but the Spaniard will likely be dismissed if they lose the home game.

West Ham have already started considering replacements for Lopetegui.

Several big names have been linked with the East London club so far, including Edin Terzic, Graham Potter and Max Allegri.

And now the Daily Mirror reports the Irons are weighing up a move for Michael Carrick, having been impressed with his work at Middlesbrough.

He is said to be one of the names high up on the shortlist at the London Stadium.

The 43-year-old began his career at West Ham and went on to make over 100 appearances for them.

Carrick spent most of his career at Manchester United, but he is still remembered fondly at the Hammers.

The former England international has been Boro’s head coach since October 2022. He led them to the play-off semi-finals in his first campaign before guiding them to the last four of the EFL Cup last term.

The North Yorkshire outfit are also doing well this season, and it is clear they don’t want to lose their manager who is helping to build a promotion push in the Championship.

However, West Ham are very eager to sign him due to his attractive brand of football and a link to the club.
