Wigan Athletic have signed striker Will Goodwin on loan from Oxford United for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old has made three brief substitute appearances in the Championship for the U’s this season, with his last game coming against Millwall at the end of November.

Goodwin joined Oxford from Cheltenham in January 2024, four months before the the club won promotion to the second tier.

He is Wigan’s third signing of the January transfer window, following the earlier arrivals of defender Josh Robinson from Arsenal and forward Joe Hungbo from German side FC Nurnberg.

Manager Shaun Maloney said: “Will is another player we have been tracking for some time and I’m delighted he’s decided to join us.

“He already has experience in League One and is the type of character we want in the dressing room.

“He has different attributes to our other forward players and adds a new dynamic to our frontline.”

Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat by Birmingham City left Wigan 17th in League One, seven points above the relegation zone.
