Windsor police laid impaired driving charges following two separate crashes over the Thanksgiving weekend.
On Saturday, shortly after 7 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle hitting a pole on Everts Avenue, near Campbell Avenue.
Police allege the 21-year-old male driver had a strong odour of alcohol and slurred speech, and that several empty, and partially empty, bottles of alcohol were found inside the vehicle.
They also arrived on scene to find the red sedan parked in the middle of the road with severe damage to its front end.
After failing a breath test, the driver was charged with impaired driving.
Driver hits parked car in second crash
Roughly four hours later, officers responded to another single-vehicle crash on Edward Avenue, near Raymond Avenue.
This time, police say the driver struck a parked car.
Officers allege the 33-year-old male driver had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and was “unsteady on his feet.”
He was arrested and charged with impaired driving after failing a breath test at police headquarters, they said.
Police say they will continue with Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Officers with traffic enforcement unit are conducting enhanced enforcement for issues such as impaired driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving and driving without a seatbelt.
