Women’s Flag Football Falls to Kansas Wesleyan, 18-13 – Ottawa University

Box Score SALINA, Kan. – The Ottawa University women’s flag football team fell 18-13 to Kansas Wesleyan University on Thursday evening.

Kansas Wesleyan received the ball to start the game and put together a 12 play, 55 yard scoring drive to take a 6-0 lead. Ottawa quickly answered with an 11 play, 66 yard scoring drive. On third and goal from the KWU six yard line, Madysen Carrera threw a touchdown pass to Jazlyn Camacho. The extra point was good and OU led 7-6.

The Coyotes retook the lead on its next offensive possession. Chihiro Iwata completed a five yard touchdown pass to Angel Roman. The extra point attempt was no good and KWU led 12-7 with 10:46 to go in the second quarter.

On Ottawa’s second offensive possession, OU drove the ball to the KWU 26 yards line before turning the ball over on downs. Just three plays into the Coyote drive, the OU defense forced the turnover. Jukanie Washington picked off the pass and the Braves took over on its own 39 yard line.

The Braves were not able to take advantage of the turnover and had to punt. The Coyotes moved the ball to its own 38 yard line and went for it on fourth and two. The OU defense held and OU took over. This time Ottawa was able to put the ball in the end zone. The Braves took a 13-12 lead on four yard touchdown pass from Carrera to Cynthia Homs.

The Coyotes responded by retaking the lead on a seven play scoring drive. Iwata threw a two yard touchdown pass to Roman and KWU had an 18-13 lead.

On Ottawa’s next offensive possession, the Braves had a fourth and goal from the KWU 14 yard line. Carrera’s pass to Mandolyn Scalisi was incomplete and OU turned the ball over on downs.

Kansas Wesleyan drove the ball to the Brave 14 yard line. Ottawa held and took over with a little more than a minute remaining in the game. The Braves moved the ball to its own 38 yard line and had a fourth and two. OU was not able to convert and KWU took the 18-13 victory.
