‘You’re always going to miss more than you score’ – Dessers

Must read

Cyriel Dessers explained he is “always going to miss more than” he scores as “that’s life of a striker.”

The Nigerian international was back on the scoresheet for Rangers in their midweek draw with Greek side Olympiakos.

“It’s a decent result,” he told BBC Scotland. “If you look at our performance as a team, we can be happy about that. Olympiakos is a very good team, a lot of quality was a special atmosphere here today. It’s not easy to come here and and take points. We can be happy with that.”

Speaking about his individual showing, he added: “I’m very happy with my performance. I played a good game, gave the two centre-backs a lot of difficulties.

“Obviously, you want to score one of the first two chances. On the first one, the finish could have been better. Second one, I do well, the goalkeeper makes a good save and then you know, that’s the life of a striker.

“You need to stay in the game, need to stay focused and hopefully make the next one. That’s what I did, so I’m happy with that.”

The Rangers frontman has come under fire for some of his performances this season, despite scoring nine goals in his 19 appearances so far.

“I was watching the Champions League this week and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances, so who am I as Cyriel Dessers to not miss chances? Obviously, you’re always going to miss more than you score. That’s life of a striker.

“You know that there will always be a perception about that but that’s the life. If I would score three chances every game then I will probably not be at Rangers either, but that’s life and you just have to keep going, never give up as a team, individual and you just need to be ready for the next one.

“That’s what I did today. That’s what we did as a team as well, even after the setback and we came back and that’s and I think we can be very proud with our performance here.”
