🇪🇸 Atlético de Madrid steal victory from Athletic Club in dying moments

Must read

A tasty LaLiga clash almost failed to impress on Saturday until a late goal helped Atlético de Madrid beat Athletic Club 1-0.

Scorer: Correa 90+2′

The hosts would have been licking their lips when they heard Jan Oblak was unavailable through illness only an hour before the match, but in terms of attack, it was a night to forget.

Despite plenty of talent on the pitch, including Inaki and Nico Williams, Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann and Conor Gallagher, these two clubs only registered one shot on target across 90 minutes of action.

The former Chelsea man was inches away from his first goal, though, after sending a curling effort wide of the net. Oihan Sancet, meanwhile, had the hosts’ best chance but failed to beat goalkeeper Juan Musso.

Both teams used a handful of substitutes to try to kickstart the match, but with the clock ticking down and still just that lone attempt on target combined, it appeared the points would be split.

That was until Alexander Sorloth and Angel Correa combined off the bench. The new signing played through the Argentina star who round goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala and slotted home on his 425th appearance for the club.

Athletic Club will feel extremely hard done by after collapsing in the final moments. They subsequently sit 10th while Atleti sit second, four points behind leaders Barcelona.
